Elon Musk has recently begun responding to Twitter users who tag him, and he has also been known to participate in conversations on the platform he now owns. In a new discussion about further developing the Twitter UI, Musk answered to a Contraptions 360 staff part’s idea and furthermore expressed “a few significant UI enhancements” are coming in January.
Musk, who is currently in charge of Twitter, has made significant enhancements to the platform as well as nitty-gritty additions, some of which appear to be experiments. Recently, Twitter began displaying views and interaction statistics for each tweet to show that, despite the fact that few people actively comment or like them, tweets are still being read.
Musk conducted a Twitter poll on Friday afternoon to determine whether view counts should be displayed on the left or right of the tweet UI. The new measurement is presently shown on the left, taking point of reference over the Answer, Retweet and Like markers.
At the conclusion of the polling period,
54.3 percent of respondents had indicated that they wanted to move it to the right, while 45.7 percent appeared to be content with its current location. The survey produced a few conversation strings about other UI changes that Twitter should consider.
In response to Musk, Gadgets 360 employee Pranav Hegde suggested that instead of using text labels for Views, Likes, Retweets, and Quote Tweets below each tweet on the service’s mobile UI, icons might be able to fit all of them on one line.
Musk’s affirmative response suggests that Twitter has either already considered that or will implement this change in response to his suggestion. In their comments on the thread, additional suggestions about how to use screen space, bugs in the user interface, and jokes about Musk’s tendency to conduct polls and make changes on the fly were all made by other users.
Since taking over, the soon-to-be-ex CEO has made numerous changes to Twitter’s functionality, including an overhauled Twitter Blue subscription plan and a complete reimagining of blue identity verification tickmarks. The CEO has stated that he will step down once he finds a suitable replacement.
He has stated that all users will be able to edit tweets and is working to increase the 280 character limit to 4,000, which would fundamentally alter how Twitter is used.
